Our Story
The Rae & Webb brand originates from our families names. The name Rae is from Rae's Bakery, which our family used to run in Scotland between 1908 and 1969. Carrying on the family traditions and producing homemade cakes and treats, was our passion for starting the coffee shop in York.

We have always loved Gillygate because of all the independent shops and also, being one of the main routes into York. The perfect premises became available here so we took the opportunity and opened Rae & Webb in September 2016.

We both have extensive experience in the hospitality industry; in 5 star Hotels, cruise ships and restaurants around the world.
​
Rae & Webb coffee shop serves Origin coffee, Joe's tea and a variety of hot and cold drinks, plus a variety of breakfast, brunches, lunches and a delicious selection of home baked cakes and treats.

Our Coffee
We serve Origin coffee.
​
Origin Coffee is a speciality coffee roaster based in Cornwall. They roast seasonal coffee on a Loring Smart Roast, the world’s first environmentally friendly coffee roaster.
​
Origin coffee uses direct trade practice. It cuts out the middle buyers and sellers and promotes direct communication and price negotiations between the buyer and the farmer. Crucially, it pays at least 50% over and above Fairtrade prices.

Our Food

At Rae & Webb, we pride ourselves in using only the best produce available for our menu.
For example, our breads are sourced from a local artisan baker in York that only supply us with breads and bagels amongst other goods.

We strive to produce a range of delicious menu options for both breakfast, brunch and lunch using our artisan breads. Please see the menu page for our current full range.

There is also a range of gluten free sweet treats such as Chocolate Brownie, Salted Caramel Shortcake and a variety of delicious cakes.

All of the cakes, traybakes, sweet treats, biscuits and soups we serve are lovingly handmade by us to exacting standards to provide the best quality dining experience.
